Meditation special theme sessions

People sometimes ask me how they can gain more depth in their meditation practice.

The Introduction to Meditation course outlines how a balanced meditation practice exists of three components: concentration, mindfulness and metta. Training your mind – the goal of meditation – requires these three components to be equally well-developed.

Without strong concentration, it’s hard to obtain a clear image of your mind. Without mindfulness, you don’t have enough insight into your mental reality to allow for its experimentation and manipulation. And without loving kindness for your current moment experience, you remain stuck in the attraction and repulsion of elements of said experience.

These three elements can be developed to great degrees, separately. It’s easy, then, to understand the curiosity as to how

  1. your mind can be better tamed
  2. your mind can be known more personally, and
  3. how your experience can be loved as much as possible.

These questions are all the subjects of extensive practice in the in-depth courses that Inward offers. Unfortunately, not everyone can free the time to be able to participate in them. That’s where the Theme Sessions come in. The aim is to offer these sessions on a regular basis. Lots of information is offered in them and chances are that next time, you’ll take away whole new layers of insight into your mind.

Theme Session 1 on Sunday September 13 goes into the theory and practice of concentration meditation. How do you still your mind? And how do you create the conditions for joy, tranquillity and equanimity to arise?

Theme Session 2 on Sunday September 20 concerns itself with the development of mindfulness. We’ll develop mindfulness with regard to the body, feelings, mind and mind objects to ultimately access a spacious awareness that knows everything without attaching itself to anything.

Theme Session 3 on Sunday September 27 focuses on the deepening of love. We’ll investigate what love means to you and take our time to effortlessly generate and radiate loving friendliness to yourself and the world around you.

These theme sessions are open to beginners and advanced meditators alike. There will be instruction, and at times we’ll do some exercises. However, the main focus of the meetings is the actual meditation. Seeing as the meetings last for 150 minutes, it is recommended that you feel comfortable meditating 30 to 45 minutes at a stretch.

The dates and times are summarized below. Select a date and you will be transferred to the Meetup website for your application. If you prefer not to become a Meetup member, feel free to send me an email or call/text me on +316 4742 8754.
